Trend: Today’s Trendy Topic is the NBA Conference Finals

As most of you already know, the NBA conference final is only a few days away and the excitement is everywhere despite one Lebron James not featuring in this year’s edition for the first time since 2010. Lebron’s legacy is usually compared to that of basketball legend and all time NBA great Michael Jordan, even though Lebron has only won 3 rings and Michael has 6. This comparison is drawn because of Lebron’s competitive nature, leadership skills as well as ability to make the NBA finals year in and year out.

This year’s script is a little different, Lebron James now an LA Laker failed to make it to the playoffs as he played in the Western Conference for the first time in his professional career. The new challenge seemed like a huge task for the King as his team was plagued with injuries and lacked the experience needed to make the playoffs. In the East however, the Milwaukee Bucks topped the Eastern conference standings and ultimately the NBA in style making them or either the Toronto Raptors and new signing Kawhi Leonard the favourites to advance to the finals. Meanwhile in the West it was a similar story unfolding with the Juggernaut Golden State Warriors dominating and destroying anyone that came in their way. Kevin Durant was once again instrumental in the Warrior’s playoff progression, ensuring that they overwhelm their competition before he got injured (Achilles) prior to the Western Conference Semi-final series with the Portland Trail blazers. Durant’s Injury however did not stop an experienced Warriors team who were determined to make it a dynasty with 5 straight finals appearances.

Steph Curry stepped up and took charge helping the Warriors progress reach their 5th Straight NBA Finals appearance. A blockbuster series in the East between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Toronto Raptors saw the Raptors clinch a conference semifinals date with the in form Milwaukee Bucks who were favourites to progress to the finals.

The Bucks raced to a 2-0 series lead over the Raptors and the writing seemed to be on the wall. However, the Raptors were able to dig deep in the next couple of games and level the series at 2-2 which paved way for an exciting finale. The next two games were crucial for both teams to win especially for the Bucks as they were now on a two game losing streak. Unfortunately it quickly became 3 losses in a row with the latter coming on home soil. The next game became the most important game of the season for the Bucks since defeat would see them crashing out of the playoffs. After a hard fought battle the Underdog Toronto Raptors came out victorious and made history to reach their first ever NBA Final.

Now lies the Big Question, Can Kawhi and the Toronto Raptors made History again and win their first ever championship against the Warriors Dynasty? Feel free to comment below for discussion.
